Mid-season
What happens when a team folds mid-season
You pick the rule. Played results can come off the table, stay, or turn into byes and walkovers. A bye or a walkover does not move anyone’s rating.
A team that stops turning up leaves a hole in the fixture list and an argument about the table. Pool league software should make that a choice you record once, not a night of rewriting spreadsheets.
The four ways to rewrite the table
- Void their results. This is the usual starting point, and it matches the EPA / BAPTO approach. Matches already played against them are marked void, so those points come off every opponent. Dates still to come become byes.
- Keep the first half. If they have played under half their fixtures, it works the same as voiding everything. If they have played half or more, those results stay and the remaining dates become byes.
- Keep what was played, and bye the rest. The table does not change for nights already played. Nobody is given points for a match that never happens.
- Keep what was played, and award walkovers. Each remaining opponent is given a win at a score you set, such as 5–0.
On the public site those matches are marked void, bye, or walkover. The withdrawn team can stay on the table with a badge, or you can hide them. If they come back, you can reinstate them and restore the fixtures that withdrawal changed.
Ratings only move when a frame was actually played. A bye or a walkover never changes a player’s rating.
